Rose of Jericho (Selaginella lepidophylla) – The Fascinating Resurrection Plant

The Rose of Jericho (Selaginella lepidophylla), also known as the Resurrection Plant, is an extraordinary desert plant and a fascinating decoration for formicariums, terrariums, and living spaces.

In its dry state, it appears as an inconspicuous brown ball. As soon as it comes into contact with water, it begins to unfold within a short time. After just a few hours, the fronds start to open, and within approximately 24 hours the plant regains its green color. This remarkable natural phenomenon can be observed again and again.

Instructions for Use

• Briefly moisten the plant under running water.
• Place it in a shallow dish.
• Cover only the roots or the lower part of the plant with water. Do not submerge the entire plant.
• After about one week, remove the plant from the water and allow it to dry completely.

As a true desert plant, the Rose of Jericho requires a dry period of at least two weeks after each watering. During this time, it naturally curls back into its compact ball shape and enters its dormant state.

Origin

The Rose of Jericho (Selaginella lepidophylla) offered by us is native to the desert regions of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. It survives extreme drought by curling into a tight ball. After rainfall, it unfolds again and resumes its natural metabolism.
