When dry, HydroPlugs are firm and dimensionally stable. Upon contact with water, they absorb a large amount of moisture, become more flexible, and gradually release the stored water over an extended period. This makes them ideal for providing a continuous water supply in ant test tube nests.

Unlike cotton, HydroPlug features a smooth surface on which surface mold is much less likely to develop. This helps keep test tube nests more hygienic and reduces maintenance.
