But as i said before: There are small basins for a arena. I believe you have the space of 20x10x10 or?

In deed a small out world is a must, nicer for the ants and much easier for you to feed the ants and to clean up there mesh. ;)

OK guys, thank you for the tips, I think I'll go with the JamJar project :D
I'll look up some neat&small jar and connect it to the display.
Anyway, a couple of my ants are still not sleeping... still a lot to do (I mean going around and around) :)
Another lamer question: do they need fresh air during hibernation? The testtube is plugged with paper towels and though it's not a hermetic seal but I don't think too much air goes in&out...

The air should circulate or you may become some mold. Its okay when you open the farm a few days per week and let it open for a short time....

I close up my tubes always with cotton, no mould so far but it would not harm the ants (ore tube) if you open it up once a week. ;)

cotton wool is the best bet, paper will get very soft from the humidity in the test tube, and u ur ants may decide to move house

cotton wool allows air to pass through it without affecting the humidity to much this means that mold is less likely to grow.

Hi guys,
I haven't been here for a while, how's it going?
Aretha&co are doing fine, they are really slow now so I'll move them to the fridge tomorrow. I'll put the testtube in a box so the fridge light won't disturb the ants when I open the fridge door.
Another lame question for Miszt: I saw you've created a care sheet for lasius niger. (Thanks a lot for it!!) :)
I've foud some Hungarian care sheets but they doesn't seem to be proper. EG it does not mention that lasius niger need hibernation:( As for we don't really have info here in Hungary about keeping ants, it would be a great help to have one, and if you agree I can translate your care sheet to Hungarian and post the Hungarian version on the Hungarian forum (of course quoting the source, i.e you) :)
Is that possible?

of course ciluvagyok :) the more translations the better!

assume you mean how low not how long steve lol 4C is perfect, 4-8C is the best, better to be at the lower end, as we have in the wild

OK miszt, thx a lot, I'll spread The Words :) I'll translate it in a short time, trying to keep the format and stuff. Meanwhile I checked the Hungarian forum and it seems like dead :( ...or maybe other Hungarian ant keepers just hibernate? :)
another question: do ALL the ants have to be sleeping when moving them into the fridge? they're still not sleeping all, I mean 1-3 of them still move a bit...
