you may be unlucky enough to have a colony that doesnt really care about vasaline lol

also, its worth putting an extra blob in the corners, where the silicon joins the piece of glass, as that may have given it more grip

When they go up to the vaseline they do turn around.. so im guessin they dont like it.. thank god.. And i have only seen that 1 out.

Hi SteveUK28

Yes thats normal. Swarming gynes fly up during snowfall, climb on top of a large snowflake with which they slowly glide down like angels on a cloud.
Males also fly up into the sky and land on such flakes. They marry in this fluffy flying bed and upon landing the young queen digs down through the snow in search for an empty nutshell for colony foundation. So this usually happens between Christmas and Easter.

dont let them fly out and they could shed their wings off and be like normal workers

Did it happen in your colonies or it's just your prediction?

If it are males they will die in a few weeks. If they are queens they will help in the nest as workers ore they will be killed.

Just make sure they can not fly out of you setup Steve and everything will work out just fine.

one guys colony shedded wings and all was fine.maybe it is in rare cases
