I give them food every three weeks although they never make a move to eat it! I know they probably wont eat again untill April but id feel bad not putting it there!
The way I see it the outside temperature above AND below ground is highly variable from day to day and more imprortantly at night. So as long as the temperature doesnt Suddenly drop from 16 one day down to 4 the next the ants will react and survive fine. Try not to worry!
Maybe you should get yourself a more exotic species so you can focus your energy on them during the winter months......or maybe spend time building somthing nice for your ants to explore when they come out of hibernation.
I have a single L.Flavus queen with a few eggs........Im hibernating her but Im worried she wont survive
I also had a huge disaster while redecorating my ants home was knocked over and the contents went EVERYWHERE! Luckily for me my ants had actualy nested in a connecting tube between a basin and display and so didnt seem to get too disturbed. I can only hope that the stress of this and the energy they have no doubt had to spend rebuilding
