The advantage of a plaster nest is that it can be poured into a mould. However as you say it can go mouldy easily and some species can tunnel through it. Is there any way of receiving y-tong or similar product as a powder so that it can be poured into a mould?? many thanks
I'm not sure if i use the correct English word for it but i was thinking of Cement, not sure it will work, don't know if someone tried it before. (Wired that i didn't think about this before. ) Maybe you can try it out.
Thanks Jimmy, yes we can get cement everywhere. I will let you know how it goes when I have time. Another thought on the plaster, to prevent mould a ant friendly fungicide could be used in the powder mix before setting. Fungicide and antibiotics are found in the blue gel formicarium, Im sure if someone knows what substances they are, they can be added to the plaster.. any one!??
Don't know what substances they use for the gel farms. I just don't like those things so i'm not sure if its good to use it in a farm, they are not made to keep real colonies in them so i suppose the substances are not that good for ants. (that is just me thinking. )
i think the standard is to paint it using a fungicidal paint additive like the one below, i don't think you can paste it directly on to the plaster though, i dunno if that would work.
