intresting, very intresting. are those metal things there to section off the y-tong? sorry but i dont really use y-tongs so im curisose. although recently ive got one from antstore,(to try them out because everybody makes a big fuss out of them lol)and i am using it for a temperly nest for one of my colonys(rubra) untill the colony gets a bit bigger. but i have to say i dont really like y-tongs to the extent that everybody else seems to
like them on this forum. i much prefer basins and antfarms so i think im going to steer away from them!!! anyway just curios as i would like to know anyone.......please

Thanks Dr. House.
Looks good. Nice chambers.

@ant dude: I believe the metal things are knifes ^^
And yes its to separate the Y-Tong. So the colony dont have the whole Y-Tong and may use some chambers for trash.

i really depends how you want to set it up, either way works just as well :) personally i use a well like in the picture, but allot bigger, that one looks a bit small for the nest imo

Would i be right in saying that if you use a well its got to be kept wet at all times.. an obiously you wouldnt be able to cover that part of the block.
Dont suppose there is any chance you could post a pic of yours please Miszt ?? Would answer a lot of my questions lol

the best way, imo, for making the well, is to have the farm vertical...heres a pic of how i have one of myne...

there are 2 'basins' on the top, the larger one on the left is the feeding area, covered with a piece of glass, the one on the right is the water well, which i top up every couple of days, the actual nest is carved into the front of the brick

(excuse the toilet shot, they are currently winding down for hibernation and thats the coldest bit of my house as the radiator is broken lol)

@ant dude/purifier: I don't think it's metal. It has to be stronger foil, like the photocopy film used on overhead projectors. So you can pull it out even within narrow formicariums. After removing it, you have a little space left were they might escape if your Ytong is outside the basin. But you can close this little opening with a lot of things. i don't thing the idea is that bad.

the parcel tape is holding the glass on the front, i ran out of gaffa lol

both basins are about 7cm deep, u need to be carefull that u dont make the walls to thin where the tunnels are close to the basins ;)

@StevenUK: I handle it like miszt. I stand the Y-Tong vertical in the basin and give some water in a corner. I have some pics in my report obout Diacamma rugosum.

better take high-quality silicone for aquariums and terrariums based on acetic acid. The one in bathrooms often has fungicides in it ... that may be a problem not only for leaf cutting ants ^^
