@steve

I've had the same problem. I guess it happens sometimes. Maybe it is the reason M. rubra mate that sometimes some incest can happen. Not sure.

Ok guys.. thought it might be time for an update.. They are in Hibernation now.. well best i can give them. Which is an unheated room with the windows left open.. Atm during the day its around the 10-14 degrees mark.. depends on the temp outside. They still seem VERY active and are still eating.. and today i had a good look inside the nest and there is still lots an lots of brood.. will they like just continue going lol.. or perhaps have a break.. Ive not seen ants as good as producing huge numbers as these.. and i WAS gonna add more queens dont think i will now.. Anyways.. Pics below.. Enjoy and please do comment :)

No problem Steve,
Yes in the second 'big' picture you can take a good look at the queen. (in the middle of the picture)

Great pictures btw. ;)

I think they are a little bit in hibernation, there are no eggs so... the larvae will survive hibernation.

Well im kinda running low on crickets atm.. and its not the kinda of weather to get pleny of bugs in garden.. so i decided to give my rubra some Honey roast ham... and they loved it :)

In fact i gave it to all my ants.. and they are all out loving it loads.. thats a first.. all my ants coming out.. even the small colonies...

Wow, realy nicely coming along =P~ . Yep, those are definitely new queens, males would be much darker in colour and have a more slender abdomen.
