Messor barbarus

That is good for you Phasmid ;), but yes they are a bit difficult to keep than most people think. They are not that hard, only if you start with a queen only, looks like you have golden hands. ;)
I wish you good luck with them.

Hi guys

My queen decided to move yesterday evening. But to be honest it looked more like that the workers persuaded her to do so. :D Anyway, the water in the last year's tube went dry so they moved to a new one. I was there to take some photos and here is the best one in my oppinion. The first attempt wasn't successful tho. She was unable to find the entrance to the small tube. :? Nevertheless, I got my photo I was waiting for all evening and later on in the night they moved successfully. :D

Nice pic :) that entrance of the nest is very small, two majors can't pass each other.

Well, actually it is not an entrance. It is only a conecting tube from one basin to the other. Glass tube where the colony is located now is much bigger and wider.

Hair on her back? Not really. I mean there are some very small hair on her body if you look at it through magnifying glass, but nothing really significant or eye-striking.

Great job Mpir and nice picture to. Yes most of the time the workers pull the queen to move her. That is a normal behavior. (but i think you already knew that ;))

Almost all ants have hair, but you can not see it with the naked eye.

Mine are doing fine to (thanks), the colony is getting pretty big. ;) (i have some new pics, will post them soon)

Well if you heated up the new nest (tube) and uncovered the old one they should move soon. They don't like cold and lighted places.
