nice pictures skippy looks like the colony is doing well.
in the last photo you seem to have what we call ghost ants (when they have only just hatched) i had the lucky experience of seeing one a few weeks ago inside my formica fusca colony.

If i knew you'd be impressed with "ghost ants" i should have taken pictures. I witnessed the hatching of both my workers. Will do if I catch another worker hatching. It's very interesting, first the antena start twitching, then slowly the worker awakes and it can't walk properly for a while so it just stands up and collapses :)

Nice pics and 'birth' stories but I experienced a larvae cocooning itself (C.Ligniperda) Now that is something quite amazing. When ants hatch (which i only saw twice) it is quite funny yet interesting

well when i got them they were at arounf 17 or 18.
But then loads died and only 11 are remaining but i hope after hibernation the queen will lay loads of eggs. And yes I do love them as they were my first to get and generaly im addicted to ants lol

Back to topic: well kind of back to topic, I considerd buying messor Barbarus but im not quite sure there for beginners.

u a begginer then?.......messor barbarus should be fine for u really(as long as u have at least littl expirence, as long as u read past threads bout them u should be ok. as there is more than anouth info on this species so just read round the forum to help u out a little..... i have read that they need half a dry area of there nest and half kept moist or somthink....but anyway that is explained on here already so like i said have a little browse round the forum if theres anything u'r unsure about, if u still bit unsure then u can always ask again........ ...

They are not really for beginners (very stressful, sure if you only have a queen) but i think you already have some experience, not ? How long do you keep ants ?
They are not that difficult only it would be nice if you have had another species first.
They need heating, keep a shorter hibernation and can chew trough y-tong.

I didn't want to start a new topic so I hope you guys don't mind me posting in some old topic.

I put my Messor barbarus colony out of the hibernation, which lasted about 3 months, few days ago and I guess I owe some people some photos.

First of all, my antfarm is not something you often see around here, just something temporary I guess. You can berate me later.
