How is you young colonie doing ?

They WERE doing just fine... Got up to 11 workers but then some desise got them. It came out of nowhere. They all started to jerk and move uncontroled... they were all dead next morning. Queen a day later with the same simptoms. No idea why. But until then they were great and lots of fun to observe. Any idea what happend?

maybe a virus or parasite. did you do anything else ? I mean when feeding, did you give them anything else ? ...

Nothing unusual. Same old feeding, same water, same honey... Gave them a couple of small dead flys... freshly killed. And egg yalk. That is all. Probably virus. They told me that this happens sometimes.

I'm going to keep them to I'm looking for Messor barbarus right now, a friend of my is searching them for me Hope he finds them soon.

Hey guys sorry long time no post I am in Japan on an exchange programme so I prepared my colony with a huge supply of gel water, seeds and powder sugar. I can only hope my queen is doing fine :S at least i am not there disturbing her but somehow feeling really bad for leaving her on her own :s

She is probably in hibernation now so i hope she is doing fine.

3 months leaving on the 16th of Dec. Hmm any Japan specific ants i should be on the lookout for? They seem to collect bugs here. I hope she is in hibernation, however shouldn't the temp be about 12 C for her to enter hibernation? Or she just felt the winter blues coming? I hope all is ok when i get back

It is better that the temperature is low (about 5-10°c) but my Lasius species where already in hibernation at 15°c so... but once there in hibernation it is best the temperature stays below 10°c ore else they are going to wake up to soon.

There are some nice species in Japan, but i think it is illegal to take them home with you
