hello guys
ive been very busy moving house and am currantly working on moving my buisiness, which is why ive been absent again, lol since my last hello im back post ! life is rather hectic right now to say the least..!

well my colony are doing very well, im really pleased with them, i have many majors now, and i even got one on video (see youtube link below) it was late one night i returned home drunk and found a daddy long legs in my bedroom so put in for the ants, they tried to take it down, but was having trouble, so they called for a major, wow it was amazing to watch, its the first time i ever saw one above goround out of the nest, soory for the darkness but it was late and my partner was fast asleep in bed, but i think it is an ok vid.

Im back again.....yes i am still alive.......i seem to go into hibernation along with my ants...huh.. my colony hibernated succesfully for the second year right from early october to just a few weeks ago, already the queen has laid hundreds of eggs and i gots lotsn of larvea and cocoons.....my colony for sure will triple in size this year i would think. I have many majors now too, i no longer feel intimidated by keeping ants, as ive come to understans them and it would seem i have learnt how to look after and provide for all thier requirements, im no expert, but i do feel confident with this species now. just back with a link for an update on my colony, but firstly congrats to steveUk on moderator status

my anys are thriving,im completly over whelmed with them, i know i dont stop off here much anu more, but please dont think its cuz i aint bothering with my colony, quite the contrary, im as fascinated with them now as i was the day i recieved my new queen....i sit and watch them for hours, andf i have one single gigantic major, thier are many other majors in the colony, but this one is huge....lol went to grab the camera and he had dissapeard amongst the many..also i cant find the queen anymore as the sheer volume of ants makes it impossible to see her...shes there tho, the new bundles of eggs show me that....i keep dispairing about when the times comes to move them to a larger set up.....it makes me shivver to think of it....but i think they might now well be happy here for at least another year...
i do have a quickie question....now when i take the lid off, i spend lots of time capturing escapees...lol...thers too many out in the foroging area n soon as the lids off several are out....whats the best ting to use around the rim just to keep them in, so its easier to feed n water them etc.....

Hi Darran, your colony is growing nicelly. Good job.

To antswer your question, its best to use a glide material. Like PTFE or something.

Also i would start making a new nest already. Better to have it finished on time.

Jimm is right i use a smal 4"x5" heat matt under the right hand side of the last two cambers, (outside of the tank obviously) this is the queens chamber, im sure your aware its important to provide heated and un heated areas of the nest.......

good morning guys....

ok this morning at about 8 i decided to take a look at my colony, i dont know why im rather hungover after a heavy night, andi feel like the very devil himsef...
anyways....i took a look, an to my suprise, i see the queen.....rare these days, infact first time ive seen ths year, i know shes there tho because i see the nw eggs etc, but its nice to see her looking so well. To my amazement, im sure i catch her producing an egg..... if you take a look a the clip it happens right around the 2minute 57-8 second mark, its all rather swift so you migh need to skip back a few times.....i know im feeling a bit rough, lol and my sights bit bleary still from the booze, but if you can confirm it for me, id apreciate it a great deal.

p.s my filmings not up to its usual standard...

wowzers thanks, i was hoping i was right....

and yeah its a mix of plaster and sand, these are very drought loving ants, there is no humidity within the nest at all, i used to provide it in my earlier attempts when the colony was much smaller, but i found they didnt like the humidty at all, and as you can see they are thriving,
