Cold water is fine, well room temp. If your talking about Lasius niger then more than likely they are happy where they are. Lasius niger usualy wont move untill they have like over a 100 in the test tube.

Hey, I am just planing out my first formicarium and I was just wondering, what is the best method of keeping a Ytong nest hydrated? and how susceptible is Ytong to mould if kept constantly moist? is there anything I should lookout for?

:sign_welcome: What species are you planning on keeping? Then check that species in the listed category and there will prob be some pics of the best setups. Built in reservoirs are usually favored. There are loads of pictures of them on here with full explanations and examples of what has and hasn't worked. You should design your y-tong to suit the species your keeping and the environment you live in.

Awesome thanks a lot! I have been trying to decide on the species for a while now it's a bit of a slow process, I live in Australia and there isn't much information on species found in my area so I have been trying piece together what I can. This forum is amazing! :D

I know! I never really relised that before getting into it but now that I look around there are plenty.. :D I'm thinking of going for one of the more common species for my first colony though as they are more hardy and more likely to take to a new nest :)
