I've just built a ytong nest where lived my colony of Messor barbarus, but the queen is dead some months ago.Now can I use it for a queen of Crematogaster scutellaris with some eggs?I read that these ants make their nest in the wood, and I'm doubtful to use the ytong nest or find a wood?

I think in ytong queens can be scared... You must grow your colony on 100 workers around, adn than smal ytong will be ok

Yeah, queens will very seldomly move into an empty y-tong nest unless it's a single-chamber one.

If possible you could however fill all but one chamber with sand(Or moist sawdust might work for a wood-dwelling species) that can be excavated later, this'll make the nest smaller, and a queen -might- be comfortable enough to move in there. Still no guarantees.

ok, and can Crematogaster scutellaris dig trough the cork??I wouldn't find a happy colony in all my bedroom
