Help to the newbie

Beitragvon deadmeat30 » 7. Apr 2007 23:12

Hey all! just got back in from a meal and found my ants were almost all covered up! there making great progress in settling in!

ive attached a picture for anyone interested!

@ R3dFox - you could see where the water level was if you look closely. ive taken a picture but not sure if its clear on the picture.

also it would be very hard to insert a pipe now. have you use the colouerd loam and sand? if not just empty it again.

you can also use little stones (small little stones) if you don't have clay.

Looks like you have the ant keeping fever. ;)
I myself also started with only 1 colony (most guys do), now i have about 14 colonies and i still want to have some more. But for this moment i don't have much room left so I'm going to stick with these one for now. ;)

oh i do, ive always been fansinated by ants as a child. then when i got the 'antwork gel' it got me back into it! then when my little ants starting dying in there, i wanted something better and to be able to keep a queen in. im hoping to get a few! only european species. my fiancee would freak out at harmful ants.

thanks, Alan

lol. Yea same here, i always has ants in jars n that when i was younger and when i saw this site i had to get one.

My girlfriend got me the starter kit as my valentines/anniversary present which was nice lol.

I definatly want to get a few more colonies. Im looking at the ant apartments. They seem pretty cool. and also thinking of making my own simple one from cork or that oasis form or somthing. havent really thought that out yet lol.

Anywho, Alan i only live down in brum so postage shouldnt be much at all. And if your sure you wont be needing it then definatly. How much is left about? im guessing its enough for the bottom of a display anyway?

;) I to started with ants in a jar. ;)

I like them the most at feeding time. So many ants at one place, very nice to look at. And the way they take bugs who are 10 times bigger then them self back to there nest. Really great. ;)

@R3dFox: yeah i got a 200g bag of the stuff when i placed my order, so i have plenty.

yeah im going to my ground living ants, worked out the cost for all i need, should be about £40 including delivery. gonna try out an ant island as the formacarium. the apartments do look very good. when i get some lasius flavus, thats what ill put them in, with oasis foam for them, see if there interested in it.

You can do that, try it out and let us now. I'm still interested for the oasis, how it works out with your ants. ;)

hmm it seems like they have dug right in the the middle of the sand? you'll be able to see the nest soon as they expand so remember to cover it when you do.
