maybe its to cold for her is she still in her test tube if so put her some place warm like an airing cuboard brood need warmth to develop you see thats why most ant species keep there brood beath stones that catch the sun.

Thanks. I might end up giving her back to my friend he has a warmer house and could probably find a better place. She does have water.

A few years ago, it was in late september or early october, I found a Lasius niger queen running around on the street. I put her in the usual test-tube, but she wouldn't lay any eggs. Since it was late in the year I decided to try and get her into hibernation, which worked pretty well. A few month later, in spring time I put her back into the warm. She would then start laying eggs, and successfully founded a new colony.

I'm not saying this is what happens with your queen, just something I experienced.

Hey man i have had 2 problems with queens laying eggs.

The first queen i had did not lay any eggs what so ever im not sure why, i had her for about 5-6 months, then i spoke to some guy who was expeirenced with ants and i told him that i had caught her in the Nuptial flight but that i had caught her mid-air and he told me that chances are she was sterile that she had not been mated with that the chances were against her laying eggs, so maybe your freind caught her mid-air and she has not been mated with? just a theory.

My other queen who i have now who has about 5 eggs and 5 larvae at the moment, she did not lay eggs until it got warmer i caught her during the autumn under a rock, she didnt lay until summer she laid 3 eggs then waited about 1 month then laid more, she has eaten some but not sure how many.

anyway i hope that helps to some of the reasons why she may not be laying i am new but just sharing some information i found out.

goodluck with your queen or queens to come

You need to be sure she is fertilized (the queen).
Not all queen are strong enough to start a colony on there one.

yeah the best way to make sure she is fertile is that her wings will have been removed by herself so that she can dig
