ANTSTORE World of Ants

I remember that i saw a whole lot of ants near the Donau river in Novi Sad where i live,they made a trail on the whole side of the beach,atleast 100m of ants,i know they are Formica species but can someone tell me which Formica species makes long trails and fights other Formica in SPARTA/PERSIA like numbers and they are only a bit bigger then Lasius niger.
