Hi all,
I've posted this message as well on the dutch forum, sorry for cross-posting.
I'm relatively new in the area of ant keeping, but after looking around here I finally dicided to buy my own antfarm. The only thing I still want to know is the weight of the total farm. I would like to buy the Starter kit size M (so the glass farm + basin). I do see specifications on the weight of the sand-clay mixture (500 gr) but not of the glass tanks themselves.
I would like to know this information because I want to attach the farm to the wall, so I'd like to know how solid the construction should be.

Anyone here who knows the weight of the whole (1 kg, 3?? And is the slim ant farm much less weight than the bigger basin?)

The farm (size M) solo without sand weights ~2kg, so if the sand is inside the farm and you dry the sand. So i think you have to build in a construction for 4-5 kg.

Thank you for your reply ANTianer! That's a bit more than I had expected, so it's good to know. I guess you mean the 4-5 kg is for the ant farm and the larger basin together? (They will be on separate shelves.) I'll prepare the stuff I need to make the construction, thanks.

if you would place the basin and the farm on the same construction is 4-5kg enough. If you place in the basin some things with high weight so you have to construct it stronger. You use only the sand-loam for the farm and the sand for ground for the basin ? then its strong enough... put some stones or woods in the basin, so the weight increases... try to weighing ^^

to test your construction, place some filled waterbottles on the construction (1 liter water weights ~1kg)

Ah good to know the sand-loam goes into the farm and the sand in the basin, I was not really sure of that. I think I will stick in the first place to the materials included in the starter kit of the Antstore, and if I like to decorate it more with stones/wood/plants later, I'll test the construction again. But I guess it should holt the way I have designed it now. Thanks for your answers!
