URGENT!! Wrong tank need help ASAP

Beitragvon Pendulum01 » 12. Feb 2013 20:48

Hello I'm new to this forum, I literally bought the gel ant farm yesterday and placed the one queen ant in there yesterday at 6 in the evening, I've been reading your threads and regret doing this! Question is can I remove the queen ant? Or am I to late and is she not able to lay egs now? If I can remove her where shall I put her and what is the next step??

Any help would be greatly appricated.
Quick comments pleasssse because she's still sat in the rubbish blue gel

Thank youu

What is actually the problem here? What or why do you regret this? Hibernation or setting the queen in the farm by yourself? Where did you get the queen? How was she delivered? Does the queen need hibernation? I don´t understand the problem atm.

@General1977, the problem is that Pendulum01 used a gelfarm which are not siutable for keeping ants properly. The gel inside those is mostly made out of fungicides

@Pendulum01, I don´t think that the queen will have any problems after getting her out of the farm and setting her back into a testingtube or something like that.

What kind of queen is it? I can only speak of what I know, I have Lasius niger and with them the testube is big enough to keep the queen and many workers. My colonie stayed in the testube with easy 50 to 60 workers including all the breed. You can breed a new colonie in a testtube as far as I know thats even how they do it in universities.

I have never seen or touched this gel but if its possible for you to get it out and to clean the farm then why not, aslong as the farm is suitable for your upcoming ants.

I for example use fischtanks aswell but what I did is, I cut out one side of the Fischtank (of course in the corners where it is clued together) and brought the piece of glass to a glass company. I let them drill holes into the glass so I could connect a clear hose to the fishtank, drilling holes in glass is not very expensive I payed a Euro per hole. Anyway I clued the glass back into the fischtank where it was to beginn with and connected a clear hose to it wich ended in a nest, in your case that would be your farm. Then I took real fine dry sand and mixed it with tiny gravel and pured it into the fischtank to make an underground for the ants. Then I decorated the fishtank to my likening, after that I took the testube and layed it into the fishtank. For the next 3 months the ants stayed in the testube but I did not disturb them, the ants will move on their own as long as a suitable habitat is offered but noone can tell how long thats gonna be, patience is the keyword. No matter how long it takes eventually they will move on their own. Hope this helps!
