I just got my starter set and am not sure how to treat my sand, do i need to soak it in water first before i put it in the farm? or do you you just soak the gravel stuff that goes at the bottom?
hm... you need to put the gravel at the bottom and than you put the sand on it. Put in a little tube that begins above the sand an reaches out to the gravel, so you can put water true the tube into the gravel to keep this wet. The sand will suck up the water from there.
Somewhere in the forum there is a great threat about this, but i forgot where. Damn... maybe you can find it.
Thank you, i think i found the thread. So you put the sand in dry and just let the water absorb up from the gravel?
you can see the water line, do I need to keep topping the water up until the waterline goes right to the top of the sand?
and can i put the ants in straight away or do i need to let it dry a bit first?
Thanks again for your help.
Yes you put the sand in dry. If the setup is all finished you can put water in it until the waterline reaches the sand a bit. This way the sand can suck up the water and will be a bit moist. (you also can spray a little water on top of the sand sometimes, like rain in nature ) Don't keep it to moist so you ants will not drown.
If you have put water in it I would wait a few hours to put you ants in it.
