Tetramorium caespitum

Help to the newbie

Tetramorium caespitum

Beitragvon sianhilton » 28. Okt 2007 22:08

I have just aquired Tetramorium caespitum 2 female workers and 1 queen from Ant Store.

Can someone advise if I have used the correct soil material for them to nest in after their hibernation cycle

Used 4 bags of sand loam from ant store on top of a loamy compost used for keeping Bonsai trees.

Is this suitable?
Should I put stones in?
Do I need to find material more suited to their natural environment?

If anyone is keeping these in a glass basin successfully can they advise.

sianhilton, you should find out this information before you buy ants, sorry to be so negative, but these are live creatures that need care and attention...not just an ornament!

most ants will live happily in a sand loam mix, but yes, you need to mimic their natrual habbitat, so before you put your ants into the setup, do sum research, find out where they are from, and search thru this forum and the web for other peoples experience with them

good luk :)

Thanks for the reply, but this does not answer the question. I have researched this particular species as much as I can with little scant information available, hence the question.

I believe this is the purpose of this particular forum?
