New Question:

Can Temnothorax nylanderi be kept in hazel nuts insted of acorns?

I once used half a walnut attached to the glas as a nest, with a tiny hole as entrance. You can leave the middle "skin" intact to make a two level "appartment";) Only problem is smoothing the sides of the wallnut shell to fit tightly.

Hmm, thats not a bad idear . necturus do you have to keep them inside? or is outside best?

I am verry wored about this ant because it is level 2 and im going to get 2 colonys, so i dont want them to die out.

I think it is worth a try but you need to be sure, so the colony does not die. Try it out a few days if the ants don't like it put them in another nest.

I'm keeping this ants since 2.4.'07. They are indeed quite small (not the smalest though) and the first problem I've had was prevent them from escaping. Even the smallest hole was big enough for them to escape. I keep them in small piece of ytong with two rooms. I keep one part of the ytong wet and one dry. They stay in the dry part and come drink water in the wet part of the ytong. They eat almost everyting. I wouldn't say it is a class 2 ant. The colony was quite big at the begining but I've lost lots of workers because they have escaped. Lately the colony has grown in size and I'd say there are again 50+ workers.

I am going to keep these ants inside the house, do they still need tempritur changes or can i just keep them at room tempriture?

Hi all,

If i could take the last post back i would. i have decided to keep my ants inside the house but changing the tempriture of day and night (as antstore says).

@Every one that has posted here: Thanks you lot, i could'nt have done it with out you .

p.s:
From now on i will only reply to a post of high infomation that has not alredy been put in this topic. I feel i have all of the infomation i need in keeping these ants.
