How to moisturise the ytong?

Beitragvon Sphecomyrmex » 11. Mär 2009 17:50

Hi all,

I think i haven't understand at all how must i moisturise the ytong because i've obtained only back failures with this material...

In the future i'ld build a ytong nest for Myrmica rubra...How must i moisturise the ytong to obtain an apt humidity rate for this species?

If I want to use a hygrometer, must I insert it in an appropriate room dug in the ytong?

the best bet is to carve a leg into the ytong and imerse it in water.. which makes the nest moist. I use this for all my ants including my Myrimica rubra and they are doing fantastic.. in fact they did so well in the ytong last year i have had to join a second to it as they have now outgrown the first. Good luck anyways :)

I have build a basin at the side of the Ytong to fill with water, but its getting too moist pretty easy. The leg method Steve suggests seems best.

Thanks :D

With the ytong nest that i've buildt for Lasius niger, i simply dug a little hole into ytong. One time a day i poured a few water in the hole...the mistake was that the water didn't always bathe the ytong, it isn't?

I'ld like to make a farm like this: viewtopic.php?f=208&t=10662
Any suggestion for this situation?

The only problem with that setup is that it would be very hard to add water to the ytong. adding a little hole wont work at all.. You need to have a complete leg that is standing in water.
