I have had these silent crickets for month now and suddenly last few days one of them as started chirping how can this be there silent :S

wakes me up

also whats best for crickets or prefer

black - brown crickets or locusts

I do it like this: I buy crickets once a week and when i buy them i put them in the freezer for like 5 minutes so they get really slow. Then i put them in boiling hot water for a fast death. Afterwards i put them in the freezer and feed to the ants. My ant colonies need a huge amount of crickets so i have to buy them like once a week and i never have to hear them chirp.

black crickets don't last as long as brown ones are your crickets adults with wings?. locusts aren't really worth getting unless you have lots of ants so stick with crickets for now and you can also give them mealworms there easy to keep and don't make much noise but don't give them only mealworms.

ok ill order some mealworms next yr after hibernation yes i got black crickets and they become adults froze alot of them but trying too rear em so come hotter months i can breed them much cheaper. i just thought they didnt make noise so there only silent as no adults- females have long backs all shinny like armour the males just seem small some got wings .

how you mean dont last as long ? shorter life span

not shorter life span they can last longer if there conditions ain't right for them e.g not enough space

oh they got tons space and pleny of food and egg laying section - i go market in town get all the egg cartons for free so i dont skimp


i heat ants prefer black crickets is this true?

I keep my "silent"crickets in my room and I like the chirping, theres an eerie silence when they all stop though .
I used to have crickets dieing in the dozens, till I found out that they were literally gassing each other to death (may have noticed the srong smell when you take the lid off) .
A setup with big mesh sides means I can cram loads of crickets into a box without them dieing .

to stop the smell i cover the lid with a layer of plant cover for winter its 99p a metre just cut it around the lid put it on and an band to fasten it it lets air in and out wile giving a top

Ok does anyone know a good recipe to get much out these when feeding as possible im just giving them peas and brocoli and sprouts at moment

If you keep them at a higher humidity they will be silent. But thats noch perfect for their health because normally they live in dry environments.

i dont mind chirping anymore got used to it just trying find the best diet for them for when ants eat em

i dont wana buy premade rather make my own

u can feed them any type of leaf or even grass they will eat it, just try exprimenting a little
