Feeding ants

Beitragvon highered » 24. Nov 2008 11:53

I noticed that the Lasius niger I fed crickets to have little to no eggs now but the ones I fed spiders from my home do have eggs. Do crickets have less protein? No other difference between the colonies.
What live food has the most protein out of flies, mealworms, crickets and locusts please? Thank you.

Normally they should not have eggs now. Like gabranth said, they should be in hibernation and than they have no eggs.

Ok, but why do my spider eating Lasius niger have eggs (no larvae or coccoons) and my cricket eating ones have no brood? Thank you. PS Out of mealworms, crickets locuts and fruit flies which have the most protein please? Im going to buy some soon. Thanks.

I think that its normal that there are differents in the development in different colonies, even when you give them the same feeding. I have two Lasius niger queens from this year. One of them has now 10 workers, the others doesnt have even one worker. Just for example.. ^^

You don´t have to buy more food in this year. When the ants are in hibernation they don´t need food, and you have to know that hibernation is important for native ants!
