Don't know what's up in UK ... but i never heave heard or seen any "hormon treated mealworms" being sold as Zoophobas in Germany. For me it sounds more like a marketing strategy to make the customer think that everywhere else they cheat, but not in this store.
Besides, that's the real name of this "giant mealworms": Zoophobas morio.
So i guess you can buy this Zoophobas without doubt.
As far as i know the larvae(which you buy) need a lot of calm for pupation. If you keep the larvae all together the chance is high, that they are to disturbed to grow into pupae and later into beetles.

Btw, what colonies do you have. They must be really huge if you want to feed this large insects.

my colony's are small now but i plan to cut them up and give them one big worm instead of multiple smaller ones and it should be easier for my larger ants to get at the stuff inside and to breed these guys will take some time so im better off starting early.

My ants love these worms. And like you said, if you cut them in smaller pieces you can feed more (small) colonies from 1 worm. You always have to cut them because the shell is to hard for most species to get through.
