Yes I do keep the Manica rubida. i got them two weeks ago from Antstore and I am amazed by them. If you can give me any advice at all, I sure would appreciate it!

I had a colony from this species for more than a year (the queen died). It are really nice ants.
They love there sweets. They also need insects but i'm sure you already know that.
They need hibernation for about 4-5 months. They easily drown so use a cotton to give them sweets and water.

Hi Jimmy,
How's it going? I was away for 3 days and found 3 drowned rubicas, so I put that cotton in thier water right away, as you suggested. I gave them two large crickets, which they chased down and tore apart in short order. A 5mm, six legged wolf pack. Quite ferocious!
They have the moss they like, and I was wondering if you also experienced your rubica covering, almost "decorating", the moss with sand and litter. Sort of an ant Christmas Tree. Do you have any idea why they might do this? A temperature or humidity control of some sort, perhaps?

The moss is in the out world ? Could be that it is to sticky and they drop stuff on it so they can walk easier over it. Or like you said to control the nest, but than it needs to be in the nest, if it is in the out world it will do to walk over.
