Hi (just got L.niger colony some questions) thanks

so i orderd them from ant store with starter set A all came well on monday but is there a way to get the queen and workers out with out tapping them out etc. shes got about 12 workers alot of eggs and a cocoon ,
so basicly

1. what way could i get her her eggs and workers out from the arena to the ant farm without harming them or disturbing them too much

2, how do they drink when there in the antfarm (do they drink from soil or do i need to add a drinking pool in arena

3, how many eggs do you think she will lay a week from experience

4,she is about 11mm is that normal because i read that there only supposed to be 8-9mm :D ty im looking forward to being helpful on theese foums

5.what to feed for differnt things atm im feeding (flies an stuff like that) honey suger mix one from antstore and water is there anyother things they will need?

1. put the testtube in the basin part of the setup and make sure its secure so the testtube doesn't move and crush any workers then wait for the ants to move and make sure its dark at night

2. put a small 30mm dish in and put cotton wool in it then add water

3. at the begining only a few then as time goes on the ammount of eggs she lays will increase

4. what spec is it?

1. Like gabranth said, just put the tube in the out world and let the ants move them self.

2. see gabranth

3. depends on how big the colony is. Normally she lays not more eggs than the colony can handle.

4. Could be she is a little bigger.

5. They need insects and some honey or sugar mix. (or something like that)

They are Lasius niger (check title). You know they need hibernation soon. When they hibernate they are not active and don't need food. Read a bit on the forum.

try feeding them small flies all the ants i have eat them and fill them up on honey mix before going into hibernation
