Look guys i'm not being smart but i'm not likely to post here again, obviously none of ye are going to give me reason for this not working and that all i asked for plain and simple.I'm not asking for advise on what type of farm to build and i'm not asking will this work i'm asking WHY(an explanation). I can see that ether none of ye know what the reason is for this idea not working (and that is understandable) or ye just aren't saying it. Thanks anyway

PS: i know jay did not mean i was an ant i was merely pointing out the flaw in the his reasoning behind why ants wont like it.
and if he is saying if i'm seriously asking why they wont grow in this medium then maybe he can say WHY it wont work. Moisture, temperature and "dimmed" light are all easily controlled with the right apparatus.

ok.. well to start with its not big enough.. unless you plan on putting something like phiedole pallidula in there. Then ants trying to dig and walk on the gel would be like you trying to walk through a swamp.. not so great. Then of course they are pretty much unexpandable. They have no protein value at all.. They are too light.. No way to keep a good humidity for the ants. Gel + Ants dont work. Its thats simple, they dont like it and it freaks them out. Ants freaking out = dead ants. or at least a queen that will NOT lay.
I dont think there is much more i can say.. Gel no matter what type it is is no good for ants. And as for works it is too small to be used as a nest.. the only way it can really be used is if its filled with sand/soil and used in a large setup.

Also ants do not like mould as if you do put ants in there and some die it will turn the gel into mouldy and they do not like that as it can kill them aswell...
