Help to the newbie

going on holiday

i am going away on holiday for one week but i do not know what to do with my ants none of my friends want them (they dont like insects) and no one can come and feed them. will they be ok for 1 week without food if not is there anything i can give them which will last long

Of course, the food is no problem, ants can store food for many weeks. Just feed them well until you leave. Make only sure the nest will not dry!

I recomend you get a couple of test tubes, and fill them with water as if u are making nesting tubes, but instead of pushing the cotton wool half way down, push it only a couple of cm into the tube, put two of those in the basin, and they will have plenty of water for the week :-)

as tail says, dont worry about food, just water

If you feed them good before you leave they will survive the week with no problems. I would also go for the tubes like John said.

My ants dont come out

i have got a lasius niger ant farm with about 50 workers plus queen an d i have notice they dont come out much like at day theres normally 1 out and at night 3 out they have setteled in so they know whats about even thow they are still in the tube in the basin but it not very exciteing like this but is it normal

2 weeks is not that bad either. Just give them lots of water to drink and some sugar cubes etc and they will be ok.

All small colonies are shy. Don't worry they will become much more active and aggressive if the colony is bigger. ;)
