heating my tank

Beitragvon thehogmaster » 1. Aug 2008 23:47

hi i am in the process of setting up a tank for some Formica fusca
my tank is 60cm long / 36cm high / 30cm width.
I am thinking of ordering a heat rock which states that it heats at a constant 26c also i am buying a thermostat to control temp and a ytong nest pressed to glass as shown in the forums.
My question is do you think this setup will keep the nest at good temp for the ants (25c) if this is a good temp for the nest that is.All suggestions greatly appreciated

yep they will be fine, as long as you house has a fairly steady temp between 21-25C :)

You could put a stone in the tank, and use a low power lamp, maybe 15w to warm it during the day, this will simulate the sun and the ants may move the brood under the stone as they would in the wild

Don't forget to put them in a cooler place during winter. These ants need a hibernation, so you can not keep them in your room during winter.
