There are some unfertilized queens going round in my Myrmica rubra setup i have only seen 2 at he moment but there culd be more.

Anyways i know that Myrmica rubra are polygon and i dont know whether to open the lid outside (PTFE is all around the side of the small basin) and let them free.

Or keep them but if i keep them how will the queens get fertilized
will they need to produce male ants?

they will become workers, leave them in the tank

Connect the antfarm to a large box. When it is hot enough and they are ready the winged ants will go out into it and if you're lucky mate. If not they will just go back inside the antfarm.
