If anyone is trying to breed Locust i have found that sharp sand works better than silver sand just make sure that you have it loosy packed otherwise they don't seem to be able to lay there eggs in it.

wait you said they come out like 7mm ? I wanted the pin head crickets to feed to a praying mantis...

no matter how hard you try, your never going to get pin head crickets from breeding locusts

i know that LOL.
i am also breeding crickets at the moment and they are tiny no more than 2-3 mm)
where as the locust that i've got are approx 8-10mm(and eat one hell of a lot

A tip for people who've not kept pin head crickets before, if you leave them without a source of water for more than a few hours, they will die very quickly!

I recomend keeping them in a sand box, set up similar to an ant farm, with clay balls on the bottom, keep the sand very damp at all times, and they will be fine

The first time I bred crickets I just had tub of sand in the adults box then, when I thought there were enough eggs I tipped the whole lot into a small palstic tank and as they hatched I would scoop them into a small tub with a testube of water blue tacked to the base, I fed them the same as the adults and they grew up fast with virtualy no losses (apart from when I introduced my lovely ghost mantid to them )

ive just bought some 4-5mm crickets so they have something other than fruit flies to eat
