Cool dude, like the deco and ytong
im also ordering a messor barbarus colony hehe
I dont think 2 cm is enough for them to make a nest, they will try to dig some tunnels but i think they would give up. I tihnk its fine as it is and hope ur messors nest in ur ytong quickly :D

ahh good stuff.

Btw would a general type of grain/seed be ok to feed messor i.e some hamster feed or canary type grain? and i assume that barbarus get the majority of their proteins and fats from seeds so dont need a lot of insect protein?

at the beginning there sourcs of food is insects and honey but when the colony reaches the size of 10+ then seeds can be given.
But they will needs seeds after 10+ workers for them to make 'ant bread'.

They probably will not accept the honey (ore other sweets) most colonies of Messor barbarus only eat insects and seeds. Don't forget to give them some fresh water to.

The setup looks really nice. 2cm... i think at first when the colony is small they will try to dig into the sand. (if the sand is moist). Make sure the conditions in the y-tong are better than in the sand (moist, temperature) and they will move into the y-tong.
