Myrmecia pavida?

Beitragvon KiamCameron » 15. Mär 2008 19:05

Why do antstore sell these because they can kill you with 1 sting ive watched many programs on TV about these ants and they put on it it hurts as much as a wasp sting ? Ive seen videos of people having to put there hands in the colony and its one of the worse pains they have felt they say...

They are called Myrmecia pavida.

These ants are not more dangerouse than an ordinary wasp or bee. If you're not alergic to insect venom, there is no risk for you.
If you are alergic to such venom, you'll get an anaphylactic shock which can indeed kill you.

It wil kil you if you have an allergic reaction and go into anaphalactic shock, but this is not very common, it is certainly more painful than a uk wasp, but european was a 4 times bigger than ours

a other offerer sells bullet ants which apparently have the worst sting known to man so I wouldn't worry about Myrmecia pavida. Besides, they look like lovely ants and I'm def getting them whem I'm confident I have enough experiance.

The problem is that a lot of people are allergic to the puncture of Myrmecia ants...In Australia, where these ants live, Myrmecia's puncture are a major cause of life-threatening allergy (anaphylaxis) in this country, affecting as many as 50,000 people. See

Bullet Ants, Paraponera, are very difficult to keep, and very dangerous, be very sure you have the experience and equipment to look after them!

Not legally no, and I'm afraid I refuse to advertise for people who illegally take animals from the wild

Yes but they are still waiting to have them available. Antstore is now also selling Pachycondyla-apicalis but it is collection only. I am wondering if there are any other shops or trustworthy people out there who are selling this sort of great ant? Thanks.
