Ah its ok i never really asked u to find any pics
Fingers crossed its a worker in the cocoon not a male

The cocoon is pretty dark now, i'm quite sure she/he will hatch soon I'm able to see some shapes of the ant inside the cocoon and the abdomen looks like it's worker's. Can't be sure tho.

I took over 30 photos of their chamber with my camera, almost all of them had reflections, or shaken a bit, or too dark.. only this one was good enough for me

Yes, i can see the ants well, i'm happy i didnt cover them when they were in their test tube I can't see as much detail as in this picture with naked eye..

I dont know, i found her under a rock maybe 5 days ago, only found 2 cocoons in her nest.

We will have to wait until it hatches, but i'm thinking it is a male, i hope (for you) that i'm wrong.

It is a worker! Just born (½ hour since last checked the tubes and hadn't born yet)

I'm happy now, and I'll share a pic (bad quality, but you can see the worker)

I think everyone gets excited when a new first gen worker or major gets born lol

Lol, i wish i had the camera when my first Camponotus Herculeanus max. size major was born. Now there are like 5-6 of them in the colony (colony size 35-40workers).

Here's a pic of a C.Herculeanus colony (maybe 25 workers strong), only some of the ants visible (including queen):


And sorry i'm shooting you guys all the time with my photos I'm just excited about the camera and all the possibilities of it.

Yes, it is my colony, there is only like 1/5 of the ants of the colony in the pic (others still chillin' in the tube)
Hard to get good pics inside the y-tong since the "clear" plastic is not so bright.

I'm trying my best to keep the photos coming, gonna take some more today.

here's one again:

some workers had escaped my formicarium today, and i had left a mosquito on the table right next to their box (was going to feed the ants later). A worker found it, and instantly started to pull it towards the leak (luckily i was able to find it with the help of the tiny worker).

EDIT: actually you can see another worker in the box.

Yes, the hole was really tiny. She couldn't get back in with the mosquito, so i ripped the "plug" off and let her drag the loot back. Using a lighter i melted a piece of plastic right where the hole was and now no ant can escape (i hope).
