SteveUK28 hat geschrieben: Cheapest around here is 114.9 for Unleaded and Diesel was something silly like 129.9.

I find this numbers very strange. What kind of currency is it? I don't think it costs 114.9 GBP for liter. :D Please explain or put it into an value we all can understand (like €/liter).

Otherwise I can say that in a way I am happy that the fuel is so expensive. Because what is happening now is that almost every car manufacturers is developing some sort of fuel efficient vehicle - hybrid or even electric cars. Even Americans are starting to buy fuel efficient cars. And I think we all can only profit from that.

It is £1.14.9 per litre mprir. The only problem with car manufacturers making hybrids is that they cost hell of a lot more than your normaly petrol/deisel cars, and most people cant affrord them, i know i cant.
Another thought, what do you guys think about hydrofuel?? As in fuel from Water, do you think its been created already or just a myth??

Well theoreticly it is possible that car would run on water. See the link.

Hybrids are of course expensive. And maybe the price will drop. Nevertheless I think that the future lies in electricity. And hybrids are only temporary solution. Another promising link:

Well theoreticly it is IMpossible that car would run on water alone. With a basic understandig of chemistry and physics this should be clear. First you need to break down Water
2 H2O -> 2 H2 + O2
Now you want to burn the H2 to get energy ... this is exactly the reverse step
2H2 + O2 -> 2 H20
If you could drive a car by this you would have invented an perpetual motion. Both steps loose some energy as heat, therefor it is impossible to get (equal or) more energy out of step 2 than you need for step 1. Fueling a car with Water alone does not work!

In the link it says something about adding Aluminium because it reduces water to hydrogen. Nice idea... guess it would actually work. Problem is that aluminium is much more expensive than oil. You can't find aluminium in pure, only aluminiumoxid or other derivates. To get pure aluminium (which is needed here) you need a lot of energy. In numbers: for the production for 1 liter aluminium you need the energy of 3,8 liter oil . Wouldn't be cheaper and would cause more CO2 than fueling on the oil directly.

I guess the only way to get rid of high fuel prices is to go by bike ;)

There have been various articals about 'water powered cars' over the last few years, as The Paraniod says, its not as easy as it seems, infact the energy required to split Hydrogen from water is pretty emense, although the amount of hydrogen you can get from a drop of water is even bigger, if the technology is ever perfect, it will be great, but another major issue is the fact that the energy levels involved could do some serious damage is something went wrong
