Messor barbarus chance of survive?

Beitragvon ratgreen » 5. Jun 2008 16:52

yer mine stopped then started again, i have about 15 eggs now but only 2 larvea as the queen stopped laying for a while, i dont think i really want to give my colony seeds as the last ones germinated as they are only a small colony, in a chamber of a ytong, were they have moisture for brood and also store food so the seeds germinated and it took me ages to get the growing seeds out. is there anything else i could use like oats or something that wont grow.

Try cooked seeds. Or try to make part of the nest dry.

yer most of the nest is dry as they only need one chamber but becuase its a small colony they bring there food into that chamber so its moist there. off topic: spore looks like a sweet game i heard about it 2 years ago and i cant wait for it to be out.

Your ants really need seeds, maybe you can put them into a test tube. It's eassy to clean a test tube and thear is a large dry area.
My colony stores the seeds in the test tube, i guess they want the seeds close to them. My colony doesn't eat many insects atm, i hope they don't like them (seeds are less work :P ).

@spore, i heard also of the game about 2 years ago from a teacher. She told us much about Spore and i'm looking forward to play it. The only problem is my PC, to old i guess. Maybe it's time to buy another one specially for spore :p .

Lol, true, seeds are much less work. I have yet to feed my colonie insects yet because they have seeled themselves into a chamber in the ant farm.

OFF TOPIC:
Yeah, Spore looks like a sweet game. The relese date is on September 5, 2008 in Europe, and September 7, 2008 in North America and other territories. Thomie i wouldn't worry about spore not playing on your p.c. They are saying if you can play Sim City, then you can play Spore.

yer but they are living in the ytong in a deep chamber, would they still keep them in the test tube, they get loads of protien from insects, i did do bread a while back,if you put it in the microwave ,heat it up,then let it dry then it wont mould and they took that in and its gone so i might do that it seems easiest, and they like it.

If they are living in the ytong the chances are they will place the seeds there as well.

My colony also blocks the entrance with seeds. The seeds disapear but i don't see them working with them. I hope i'll see them move the seeds when the colony gets larger :D
