I live in the UK and would like to buy some more exotic species of ants but am wondering how this shop sells queen ants from the EU and out of the EU ants to different countries in the EU. Is this really allowed?
If it is then great but what measures are put in place to stop the new captive colonies from sending out their winged males and queens say into the garden and possibly cross breeding with local species? Or do we have to agree to collect these winged ants and destory them?

In the UK, and much of the EU, it is the keepers responsability to make sure that alien species do not invade their local country.

To bring Ants into the EU, you need to get permission from the country you are bringing them from, the country you are bringing them to, and also the relevant Enviroment agencies in the countries.

Intra-EU movement of insects is unrestricted, however laws still apply regarding invading species
