Temnothorax nylanderi

Beitragvon R3dFox » 20. Mai 2008 13:07

I really want to get a Temnothorax nylanderi colony and thought id get some advice off you guys first.

Temnothorax nylanderi are unavailable on the antstore right now so ill have to wait a while anyway. (how long will it take to get these ants in stock?)

Ill also be buying the 20x30 ant island. Should this be suitable for them? Because they are so small i thought the island would stop them escaping.

Going to get white sand to see them more easily.

And i was looking at the hollow nut shells they have on antstore but didnt know which one would be suitable. Either:
Jecetiba spec. small
Nelumbo spec.
Eucalyptus spec.
has anoyone else bought any of these hollow shells? or give me some advice on which one would be best?

And lastly do you think i would need anything else for this set up? is there anything special that this species needs?

Any shell will do, they only need a very tiny one, the size of an acorn, they dont need anything special to stay healthy :-)

I have a colony you can have if you like about 100 workers, £5 including packaging & postage, drop me a pm if your interested :-)

Cheers Miszt. I really like your original set-up for Temnothorax nylanderi, the pics you uploaded of your ant island. Which is exactly what im going for.

Im guessing you got the 20x30 ant island? but you found it to be too big? Does the size actually effect the ants or is it just your preference that its too big?

Also i like the drinking trough thing you had in it, are they worth the money?

Lastly im looking for cheap food for my ants to keep around the house and i was looking at the fodder flakes and sticks. Does anyone have any experience with them? Do ants like fish flakes?

Some ants love them some don't. Just need to try it out. But i would prefer the fish flakes above the sticks.

Believe me, i'm not always right.? :P ;)

The setup is not to big for the ants, it is what you prefer, in nature they live in a much bigger setup. ;)

I'm not sure which drinking trough you are preferring to, but if it is the bird feeder it sure is a recommendation. ;) That way you don't need to give them fresh water every day, just refresh it when the feeder is empty.

You want cheap food, catch some insects outside. ;)
Also you can go to a fishing store and by some meal worms, much cheaper than in a pet store.
