Hey i have bees myself must say its a really cool hobby. After seeing your hive im just curious...why are the frames so far apart or why only so few? Because if you dont keep them (in a proper hive that is) distanced at 1cm to the next hive they start building the wax on the frames in uneven lengths ^^.
Your hive looks very nice but if you put it outside in the summer it'll melt the frames wax.
Don't mean this in a bad way just as a tip.

Are you planning on taking honey from the nest? Coz I notice its inside your house, trying to work out how your going to be able to do it without ending up with bees all over your house lol

Hello willi461 The bees have a two brood frames and a supper in the middle joined together to make one big frame . This stands in the middle of the tank and the bees have both sides of this to fill and maintain . It doesent matter if the combs are uneven as it is purly for observation. The frame in the centre is to far from the sides of the tank for them to make burr comb etc . The hive will remain inside and the bees have access to the outdoors by a tube which goes throu my wall to outside. My apparent bee freind gave me this small colony telling me it was small due to him not Maintaining them properly . I have found out that my combs are full of wax moth and i have had most of my brood die . I have got chalk brood aswell and the workers arnt doing so well at claring out the cells . I am annoyed with my freind and hurt hed do this to me when i have helped him so much . I have been advised by anouther bee keeper to transfer my bees to some new drawn frames . i have not got any at the moment so he advised i moved the bees into a box and put the old frames in the freezer overnight to kill all infections and then put them back for the bees to clean out . I have done this and after putting the frames back in and letting them warm up i reintroduced the queen and workers. I am new to this and read all i can so i know alot but i am lacking experiance . Willi461 will my colony now clean out the frames and there is plenty of honey and pollen stored in the cells .

Regards

Adam

The tank is one manafactured by exo terra and you can get them in most reptile shops and on ebay mines the 45 x 60 x 45 in size. The bees i got from my freind but you can buy bees from varius websites.

Hi adam,
one simple question, how on earth have you managed that?!?!?!? I have been keeping bees for many years and have never seen anyone do something like that at home. How come your house doesnt get swarmed full of bees everytime you open it. How do you treat varroa mites, how do you chech the queens still there, how do you stop deseises getting into the nest. The questions are endless. Truly a great achievement and one i must try out for myself! What sort of bee do you use italian might bee too proliphic in honey and overtime will probably be a bad choice. Also what do you do about swarming. Lol sorry too many questions. well done though it looks great!!! :drink03:
