My colony has about 17 ants in total and I think I have a major :) They are still in a test tube and this ant is bigger than the others and a bigger head and I think there is two its not really big its a bit smaller i think than a campontous ligniperda 1st generation worker but it could be a small major ?

If it has a larger head, it culd be a major, however, 2nd and 3rd generation Camponotus minor workers are significantly 'chunkier' than 1st gen, Majors are even chunkier still

In this case ... I don't think it has anything to do with luck. C. ligniperda would not have a major after just 6 workers. It probably means that the queen was collected from an adult colony in the wild along with some workers and a major.

Or it was boosted, I tend to boost the ligniperda queens I find cause some times they just don't manage to start the colony.

With European camponotus species it could take up to 100 workers before the first major hatch.
