Mould!!!

Beitragvon SteveUK28 » 6. Mai 2008 15:28

Ok guys.. my Pheidole pallidula are in a ytong in a tank.. well actually they are in the hole i drilled that goes into the ytong lol..
Anways.. The top of the ytong is covered in what apears to be a white mould??? Why is this like this.. there is a lid on the tank but its mostly open a fair old bit and has air holes anyway.. so plenty of air gets in the tank.. and its not that moist either.. So any ideas on how i can get rid of the mould would be gratefull... Also are my ants in ant danger???

Thanks

Air holes dont = good air circulation ;)

get the air circulating, and that shuld clear up the problem, maybe use a tiny computer fan or something, i use them and they are very effective, and if you connect them to a variable adapter, you can vary the air flow :)

dont panic! lol

shuld work fine off a 9v battery, just get urself a connector, and stick the wires together, you wont have any control over it, and a 9v battery isnt gona cost you much less than a variable adapter (check maplins)

yer i use one from an old PS2, there also good for drying out a silicone on a ytong otherwise the fumes may harm the ants.

If it really is mould you need more air circulation, it also could be the y-tong stone itself. I use legs that come into a container with water (you know what i mean :) ) and at the sides there is also some white powder. But that is just from the stone.

i mean before the ants are put in dont worry, lol, there fine. yer you got to wait till its fully dried and no fumes and then give it another day before you put them in just to be sure.

I got the same white thing on my Ytong as Jimmy and Kiam write about. It is some sort of mineral I guess and not mould.

As long if that is the case there is no harm to your ants.
