my very first ytong. bit pants but it ain't for me ants. its just a tester as I'm using a bit that i found at the bottom of me garden that's been there for years. Recycling!!! also why is everyones ytongs so white, because i can only get gray ones, do you guys paint them???
i am sure were you to allow some ants in here, they would just think it perfect, ants are not so bothered about how there home looks, its us that choose to make them "pretty to look at"
i think thats a dam good effort, and bravo on the recycling
as for the colour, perhaps you are looking at none UK ytongs, which indeed are different in color, grey is just fine...
and mine are browny cuz its a plaster nest...

thanks guys. er im planning to keep all my colonies in ytongs(lasius n. x2,lasius fl. and messor barb.(all still in test tubes))But i will probably buy some new blocks as they dont look that great.
off topic : i saw a worker ant in my bathroom today. lasius niger, just one on its own. very strange. im guessing that there is a colony near my house and the nest is getting warmth from my house and has woken up.
that is rather wierd, never happened to me. U could for curiosity just find out were this worker ant came from, like if theres a small hole or something, I kinda wanna know too lol
Probably from a nest near by ore even from a nest underneath your house.
About the Messor barbarus keeping in a y-tong, it works perfect i keep mine also in one, but be careful and keep an eye on them, they could dig through the y-tong.
wow really, oh well its still only the queen and 5 eggs atm, so wont have to panic yet, and yer I'm going to use the ytong in the pic as I'm quite happy with it, just dig out the foot for the water basin and put some thing to hold down the perspex, question: what can i use instead of silicone to glue the perspex down? And i have a idea on how to block some of the nest of and i wont require any dismantaling, i will show you once its ready.
