I did have a Lasius Niger conoly for about 8 years well over 1000 ant,died out just after xmas just gone in a way i am glad because they would eat 9 mealworms 5 crickets a day, all great fun tho LOL

Wow Ant Mad thats a pretty long time, shame to lose a colony after 8 years though.

My first real (including a queen) and oldest colony is my Camponotus ligniperda which I have had for about 14 months. Started with 7 workers and now 70+. Since then I have been I little over ambitious with my ants and have already gone as far as having a nice sized Acro colony . I hope I'm not overdoing it .

I have Myrmica rubra, 20 workers, 1 month.

The thing is that was my first conoly and even this was too small in the end ( http://www.antstore.net/shop/product_in ... lling.html ) and when you have that many vaseline does not keep tham back.

I guess to keep a colony that big you need a 5' fish tank and a PTFE strip 3" wide lol.
