I have a colony that has about 100 workers or so and they have been in a y-tong nest for a few months now but I have never seen any sings of damage.

thanks for the advice thomie,i shall keep an eye on them,i have never read about m barbarus chewing through a ytong before ,i hope they dont ,has anyone one else experienced this ???????????

I've read on this forum like 100 times that M. barbarus can chew through ytong. This is why I don't keep them in ytong nest.

Yep, i myself already said it a few times.

I also keep mine in a y-tong but i check on them every day to see they are not chewing through the y-tong.

I've put the Messor Barbarus in the climate chamber.
I've tested the heater 2 weeks (after the repair) and it works very good.
The temperature is 20oC at the moment but I'll heat them slowly to 27oC-29oC (it's about 2oC precise).
I hope this time it'll works.

wahoo, my first messor b. worker hatched today, i started with just 3 eggs,now i got about 25 eggs,2 mini larvae,2 big larvae,2 pupa and 1 worker

that's good news!! ,a good start!!
My colony got 2-3 eggs atm. I guess the colony eats insects atm (Maybe the ant's didn't eat the insect but just move them into the trash place).
I've put the temperature today up to 22oC. I'm going to check the brood this weekend (every time i check the nest a worker or the queen takes the pile of brood and runs with it).

seriously man, get some source of heat,it really did make a huge difference to the speed of development. i had my eggs staying at eggs for ages but then once i had a source of heat ,wham,it a huge larvae in no time

I've got a heater. But it's better to heat it up slowly. I can change the heat from ?2oC? to 30oC. The heat fluctuates 2oC, so it's verry precise.
