Beitragvon Sphecomyrmex » 2. Mär 2008 14:16

Hi all,

I'm very interested to the behavoir of eusocial aphids, eusocial thrips and eusocial beetles, but i haven't found more informations on eusocial insects, which isn't ants or bees, in internet...I would like give some info on these particular eusocial insects.

How are organised thir colonyes? What are their behavoir? Have they worker castes?

Thanks for replyes.

No other insect have colonies like ants, beeses or wasps. They just live together and people call it colonies, but I really think that scientist dont call it colonies. For example cockroaches are united in more than 200 singles, and it´s called colony, but it is just name for many singles living together. Their brood- nymphs, coud live alone and can grow to imago themselfs, but ant brood- larvaes and eggs, coudn´t grow to imago without help of workers. There are eusocial Wasps,- Hornets, Beeses, Bumblebeeses are all eusocial(just some special genuses are singe and not eusocial), Hymenoptera. Termites are in Isoptera group with Cocrkoaches, Mantids and some other... There isn´t any other group which make social units with queen and workers, with castes and things....

OK, thanks.

Probably, the few sites that i've found on this topic, they confused eusociality with the simple sociality...
