Ants In Spain?

Can you guys tell me what ants are in spain as im going there in may and july where the mating season starts around there and im hoping to collect some queens from there so can you give me a list of ants that live in spain I cannot find a list anywhere on the internet.

just got back from lanzarote and there was a huge line of messor barbarus massive about 50 meters long, i saw some random queen ant with wings that might have flown over from Africa or something(lanzarote is a little island near Africa) it was huge and scared the crap out of me and my dad as it landed on the snooker table as we were playing,'sweet look at that queen ant its huge' my dad 'yer,great...' and also a little nest neast my room ,i have some pictures which i will upload tomorrow, so hopefully someone can identify them.

anyone know what species these are. i liked the major so i took a lot of pictures of it. :D they were quite small and browny-red body and really dark brown head and abdomen as you can see.

looks like some type of Pheidole, or possibly Pheidologeton (cant spell it)

I've seen this ant/an ant who looks really like this one on antstore.net . Maybe you should browse the shop if some ant looks like this one (look at the size etc.)

I had seen this Pheidole, I think it is, on Malta, very very dry there, just stones and opuncies.... I send a pic of majors, I think it is the same specie :wink:

i think they are different, the back of your ants is less round than the other one :p

nah they look almost the same. yer they are the same so they are Pheidole pallidula its just in the pics on antstores shop they are bright orange but after looking at this http://www.antstore.net/viewtopic.php?t=3711 they are the same, i might buy some lol they were cool

Wow so lots of species in spain I think ill take around 20 test tubes there :)

Does anyone know as I got told if im taking these ants home will i get arrested or something because UK have apparently got stricter about ants ?

all im gona say is if your lucky/skilled/stupid you could smuggle them home, but dont, its not worth the risk, i dont know what they would do, also you would have to take them with your hand luggage because they dont heat the suitcase hold on the plane so it gets way below zero, and then you might get caught if you have them in your hand luggage.

Yeah you can try it!
You make a hole in foam moans then you put a test tube with the ants inside it. The best you can send the ants separated because if they catch one maybe they don't catch the other ones..
I don't think they'll catch them. Because it to much work to check all the letters witch are send
