Actually, they are hard to keep. There are some reports about colonies that grew that big they couldn't be hold in their tanks any longer.
The problem with this species is the fact that they simply grow too fast. There can be 20 queens in a colony so they can grow to an extemely huge colony.
They are expected to practice incest, so the number of queens can even increase in time.
Please do not buy a colony of this species without having experience with european ants.

Regards
Gaster

I absolutely agree with gaster... on the english side of the forum, the downsides of Polyrhachis dives seem to be a bit underacknowledged, and i often had to type something like he did here... please pass information around.

They certainly need plenty of resources, and plenty of space, my colony has recovered from dropping to around 200 3months ago when i first got them, to close to 1000 now. There food consumption is very high, around 20ml of honey a day atm, 5+ crickets, mealworms & waxworms a day, add on top of that the large amount of heating required for ther tank, yep, definitly not for the inexperienced and resource limited. Im expecting my colony to double in size roughly every 3-6 months if i dont ristrict ther protien intake dramaticly

@ ducatiman: Who told you they are not to hard to keep ? ;)

Like Gaster said, they grow into huge colonies, they need lot of food and heating like miszt explained.
So make sure you have experience and a lot of space if you are willing to keep these ants. :)

no one told me they were easy  ,i have had many years experience keeping reptiles that require special needs in regards to humidity ,temp ,lighting etc, also i have kept ants with no real problems (not perfectly but no disasters ....yet )so i think in regards to environmental requirements i should be ok ,i agree that the main problem i believe i would have is with the size of the colony and housing them,so if anyone has any advice plaese let me know :D

i do not believe that its possible to give negative feedback or advice because the whole idea of this forum is to educate each other with the experiences we have had,so please tell me exactly what you think, after all it could stop me making an expensive mistake :D ,thanks for any advice you give me
