My Formicarium custom made and possibly for sale.

Beitragvon ratgreen » 8. Feb 2008 23:29

This is a picture of my Formicarium that i got my great uncle to make for me. i designed it about 3 years ago and it was given to me as a birthday present 2 years ago. my great uncle is the master of glass the idea is that the outside bit at the top would be filled with water to act as a moat and the thin bit to be filled with sand/loam. i might sell it seeing as i don't use it as it has already killed 3 of my colonies as I'm not that great at keeping ants. if its going to be sold then it will be on eBay. and the postage would be alot I'm afraid, because its glass. its really good looks nice, and holds moisture really well i poured a bit of water in it over 6 months ago and the top is still really moist and no mold.

any questions welcome.

side view, currently filled with sand. no ants in it though.

no water in the moat

top, really dusty...

side of it. looks thin but really strong, only the stand you should be careful with as it is only a sheet of glass, not really weak though so dont worry.

er dimensions are; nest bit: 30(h) x 20 x 4cm and the top moat bit is 11 x 26 x 4. i will put it up in the next 1-2 months or so to get maximum amount of people interested. and for saftey reasons im not allowed to let anyone pick it up im afraid.

that seems confusing to me, as it would prove much much safer to have it collected, and given the price it would cost to package and post this adequatly and safely, im not too sure youd sell it  but this is just my opinion...

If you lost 3 colonies in that farm, than you have 2 options, 1 you are doing something wrong ore 2 the farm is not good to keep ants in. So if it is option 2 i think you better not sell it to someone else so he could kill some ants...
And i think it is option 2, because your other colonies are still alive, not ? ;)

well tbh you shoudnt be keeping ants.....

you have here the perfect set up that would easliy accomdate a colony, you need to seriously consider yuor hobbie, it's not the ants fault that yuo cant be botherd, it is yuor duty to care for them properly....
